Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, Paul and Virginie, preceded by a study on the origins of Paul and Virginie by S. Cambray.
Paris, Librairie des Bibliophiles - Jouaust, 1878. In-12, XLVIII-213p.
Beautiful illustrated edition with 12 etchings by Laguillermie, one of 25 copies on chine with the proofs before letters.
Provenances: Léon Rattier (1824-1902) with his armorial ex-libris (sale of 17 to 23 June 1920, no. 872); Georges, called Géo Valdelièvre (1845-1932) with his engraved ex-libris.
Binding signed Allô & gilding signed Charles Maillard, full blue morocco, triple fillets, small tools at the center of the covers, spine with raised bands ornamented, lined with red morocco with a rolling pattern, fillets and dotted border, edges gilt.
Small crack of less than 1 cm at the head of the upper hinge, small nick to the lower tail, browning scattered.
Superb copy.
