Description from the seller
Pepe Pétalo develops a personal imaginary of the artist, a territory where spontaneous drawing, intuitive gesture, and memory are transformed into painting. The origin of his work goes back to adolescence, when he began drawing a little doodle with a big nose on the margins of his school notes, on napkins, or in textbooks. Those doodles, born almost as an unconscious act, have over time become the seed of an artist’s own language.
Pepe Pétalo has spent 25 years building his professional career at the Social Work of the now-defunct Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo, where in his last stage he was responsible for the Culture area and coordinator of the CAM Contemporary Art Collection, currently housed at the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA). From that position, he actively participated in the design and organization of numerous itinerant exhibitions throughout Spanish geography, as well as in the promotion of emerging artists.
Throughout his professional trajectory he has had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with prominent creators such as Carmen Calvo, Eduardo Arroyo, Cristina García Rodero, and Cristina de Middel, the latter President of Magnum Photos (Princess of Asturias Award for Concord). This proximity to contemporary art from cultural management has nourished his perspective, although his pictorial proposal remains faithful to the freshness and authenticity of the original stroke.
Pepe Pétalo’s painting does not seek solemnity or distance. On the contrary, it aims to be an invitation to smile, to distract, and to reconnect with that playful part that often dissolves in adult life. His doodles and scribbles, seemingly simple, hide a reflection on identity, memory, and the capacity to create without fear of judgment.
“Universe Pétalo. Doodles and Scribbles” Ultimately represents the public consolidation of an artistic universe that has accompanied the author since his youth and which now unfolds with maturity, coherence, and a clear vocation to connect with the viewer through direct emotion, complicity... and why not... humor.
Where Flowers Take Flight.
This work imagines a garden where flowers and birds share the same nature: that of color, light, and life. Each being keeps its form, but seems to be born from a common vital impulse. The flowers transform into birds, and the birds appear to become flowers, creating a dialogue between the terrestrial and the aerial. Open petals recall wings, while the beaks and eyes provide movement and curiosity to the bouquet. The turquoise background envelops the scene like a bright space where anything can happen. The chromatic intensity conveys joy, freedom, and energy. It is a celebration of the diversity of life and of the beauty that appears when different forms meet and bloom together.
The marked dimensions of the work are those of the painting once stretched and mounted on the stretcher. The actual dimensions of the canvas are larger to be able to execute its mounting.
The work goes without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). It is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
