Description from the seller
Elmyr de Hory (1906–1976)
Pen drawing on paper. Hand-signed.
Original work by Elmyr de Hory, one of the most fascinating artists of the 20th century. The drawing depicts an elegant female nude standing, built through a delicate play of light and shadow that models the body's volume with extraordinary economy of means.
The composition evidences the artist's deep academic formation and his admiration for French painting of the first half of the 20th century. The stylization of the neck, the serenity of the face, and the monumentality of the figure evoke the influence of Amedeo Modigliani, while the free handling of charcoal recalls the tradition of Henri Matisse and the School of Paris.
Elmyr demonstrates in this work that, beyond his renowned ability to recreate the style of other artists, he possessed a solid personality as a draftsman. The figure emerges from the paper through a subtle tonal modeling, where chiaroscuro takes absolute prominence and lends the composition great sensitivity and elegance.
Hand-signed by the artist in the lower right corner.
Technique: Charcoal on paper.
Condition: Very good.
