Johan Blomhert (1693–1738) was an 18th-century Dutch preacher and historian. He was born in Zaltbommel, studied literature in Utrecht and theology in Leiden, after which he served as a pastor in Haaften and later in Cuijk (Cuyk), where he also died.
His best-known historical legacy is the work: De geschiedenissen van het Vereenigdt Nederlandt (zedert desselfs eerste opkomst tot op deese onse dagen).
Characteristics of his work:
Religious perspective: The book is strongly written from the Protestant doctrine of providence. It tries to show how the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands was repeatedly protected and saved by "miracles of God's providence".
Pro-Oranje: The historiography is closely interwoven with praise for the rule of the Princes of Orange and Nassau.
The book is in excellent condition, 430 pages, complete, unmarked and undamaged. The flyleaf bears some age spots.
