Description from the seller
Guy Seradour was a French painter, born on 8 October 1922 in Étaples (Pas-de-Calais) and died on 2 November 2007 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, but chose also to continue working as a self-taught artist.
His first exhibition took place in 1940 in Algiers. From the 1950s onwards, he gained renown for his atmospheric landscapes, portraits, still lifes and figure studies, characterised by soft lighting, serenity and a poetic atmosphere. Provence was a major source of inspiration in his oeuvre.
Seradour exhibited internationally, and his work was acquired by, amongst others, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Musée Boudin and the Musée du Gemmail. In 1977, he received the international Gemmail Prize, which established his reputation as a ‘painter of light’. He was awarded the title of Knight in the French Order of Arts and Letters and in the Legion of Honour.
