Charles de Saint-Évremond (1613-1703) was a French moralist, essayist and literary critic. Exiled in England from 1661 for political reasons, he spent the rest of his life there and moved in English high society. This famous edition of his works, published in London by the renowned publisher Jacob Tonson (known for publishing Shakespeare and Milton), gathers his philosophical writings, his letters and his critical essays. His writings, imbued with Epicureanism, are considered precursors of libertine thought and the Enlightenment..
