Antique silver salt shaker dating to 1850–1900, handcrafted in pierced silver (875/1000) with a dark cobalt blue glass insert, measuring 6 cm high, 5 cm wide, 81 cm deep, weighing 148.37 g, of Italian origin with English silversmith craftsmanship, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Antique Silver Salt Cellar
Refined and authentic salt cellar, presumably English, dating from the mid-1800s, entirely crafted in pierced silver and completed by its original dark cobalt blue glass insert, in excellent condition as shown in the photos.
The mount features splendid openwork with oval geometric motifs and rests on three finely worked shaped feet.
A hallmark reveals the probable provenance attributed to the renowned silver masters of Bristol.
A profile of a female head with a headpiece facing left seems to emerge, which appears to historically certify the exact period of production, closely tied to the second half of the 19th century.
The number "84" corresponds to the high purity standard of silver of 875/1000.
The weight of the silver is over 67 grams; the weight indicated in the general description (147.37 grams) relates to the support and the overall silver structure.
Overall condition excellent for its age. The silver structure is solid, stable, and shows no deformations or welds. The patina of time is natural and has not been polished to preserve its historic charm. The original blue glass insert is perfectly intact, free of chips, cracks, or edge breaks—a very rare detail for such utilitarian objects.
Rarity that is difficult to find in these conditions.
