Japanese set of 7 lacquered wooden sake cups – Shichifukujin – hand-painted decorative motif – Japan – Showa period

Beautiful vintage Japanese set comprising seven small lacquered wooden sake cups, each hand-decorated with a different representation of the Shichifukujin (七福神), the Seven Gods of Happiness from Japanese tradition.

Each cup features an elegant vermilion red lacquer exterior and a gilt interior. The characters are hand-painted (hand-painted design) with delicate black lines and touches of red, green, and brown.

The seven cups represent the seven Japanese lucky gods, traditionally associated with luck, happiness, prosperity, and longevity. With each character different, the set is especially charming when displayed as a complete collection.

The seven cups are housed in their original blue box with a light-colored interior.
