Description from the seller
A rare and important single folio from a large format Seljuk Qur'an, written in bold early Naskh script on ancient laid paper, dating to the 11th-12th century CE. The page contains verses 91-94 from chapter 6, Surah Al-An'am (Cattle), which rebuke those who: deny God revealing the scripture; deny the Qur'an as a blessed confirming book for Mecca and its surroundings; and those who invent lies against Allah or falsely claim revelation. The main themes being false prophesy/fabrication against God, authenticity of revelation, death and accountability and solitary judgement before God.
The script exhibits the monumental character typical of early Seljuk Qur'anic production, with gilder verse markers and decorative intersura panel. Manuscripts of this nature and quality are scarce. This is an exceptional artefact of Islamic civilisation.
It is is good condition for a folio of its age, with minor damp staining.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
For our German customers I regret that due to new customs regulation applied in Germany. we are obliged to pay customs duties up front, and as we don't know the amount that will be paid, we have applied an additional Euro10 to the shipping. If the customs is more than this we will absorb the difference.
