Description from the seller

Pair of antique religious statues of Saint Joseph and Mary with Child – Hand-painted biscuit porcelain with gold accents – Height 38.5 cm – ca. 1900-1920

Description:
Offered is a particularly beautiful and harmonious pair of antique devotion statues, made from high-quality, unglazed biscuit porcelain. This type of statues, characterized by the matte and refined appearance, was produced with great craftsmanship around the turn of the century (ca. 1900-1920) in the renowned atelier Vieux Andenne, Belgium.
The pair consists of two complementary representations:
* Saint Joseph with the Christ Child: Joseph is depicted serene with a full beard. He carries the Infant Jesus on his left arm, who holds a golden globe (globe with cross). In his right hand Joseph carries a palm frond, the traditional symbol of purity.
* Mary with the Child (Madonna): Mary is crowned as Queen of Heaven with a detailed, gold-colored crown. She bears the Christ Child on her left arm, who with an open gesture stretches his arms out toward the viewer.

Details and Craftsmanship:
Both statues are beautifully decorated with soft pastel colors, with the flowing white robes accented by light blue mantles. The clothing is richly adorned with hand-painted golden floral motifs and details, which shine very nicely in the light. The faces and expressions are rendered with extreme precision and refinement. Both figures stand on a solid, semicircular pedestal with graceful, gilded ornaments.
