Paesaggio con figure, a XVII century oil on panel landscape from Italy, attributed to the circle of Jan Both, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
This is an Flemish school landscape oil on panel from the XVII century, restored and backed with backing board. It is a very interesting landscape from the Dutch school that depicts a German landscape with a style typical of Italianizing landscape painters of the XVII century, and which particularly looks to Claude Lorrain (1600-1682) and Jan Both (1618-1652). The author is an artist from the circle of Jan Both (1615-1652). In fact this painting presents many features similar to the paintings of the Flemish author. The composition is similar to the “Landscape with Figures” in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In both paintings the tree trunks are rendered with attention to detail. Even in the painting for sale there is light rendered perfectly, as is always the case in Jan Both’s works, who drew inspiration from Lorrain. Measurements: 106 cm x 68 cm (with frame); 96 cm x 58 cm (without frame).
The fact that the school is Flemish is inferred from the attention to detail of the trees, the bark, the characters and the livestock in the background. One can also notice the presence of a painter in the background who is studying this typical XVII century German landscape. The trees, especially the one in the center, are described with great detail. This landscape is characterized, in addition to its amenity, by the presence of some houses in the background.
The painting is solid and has been backed because the panel is very old. Some small restorations where the boards move.
This is one of those landscapes created by authors who are not Italian, but with an “Italianizing” style, by one of the so-called “Italianizing landscape painters of the XVII century.”
Everything will be well packed, and professionally. Shipping will be carried out through specialized couriers. A regular certificate of authenticity and rightful provenance is issued.
