This fascinating winter landscape is a work of considerable depth by the renowned Swiss painter Émile Chambon, who lived from 1905 to 1993. The painting depicts an industrial urban view covered in snow, where a three-arched bridge crosses a tranquil watercourse, while in the background the profiles of factories and chimneys emerge under a leaden, muffled sky. Chambon, a prominent figure in the Geneva and Swiss art scene, is known for his distinctive style that blends elements of magical realism with a nearly post-Cua-bist geometric rigour. In this canvas, the quiet atmosphere of the snowbound outskirts is rendered with a refined palette of greys, blues, and earthy tones, typical of his more intimate and melancholic compositions. The painting is signed bottom left E. Chambon. On the back of the wooden frame, old archival inscriptions and period marks attest to its history and provenance.
Important information for bidders
As a private seller, please read carefully some notes to ensure an ideal transaction for both parties. The work is sold without a frame, as visible in the general photographs, focusing all its value on the splendid large-format original canvas.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to EU countries may be slightly longer than usual due to the standard customs procedures. Please also note that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT, and customs charges are the buyer’s responsibility and will be collected by the authorities in your country upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. As an alternative to shipping, if possible, personal pickup in Geneva is always my preferred option and strongly recommended, as it will eliminate transport costs and ensure maximum security for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package the piece to protect it during travel.
