Description from the seller

Main Details of the Work
Artist: Henri Matthey-Jonais (1905-1990)
Estimated Title: View of Florence with market (San Lorenzo Complex)
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dating: 23 September 1951
Canvas dimensions: 60 x 55 cm
Signature: Signed, dated and located at bottom right
Artistic Description and Subject
Splendid oil painting on canvas by the Swiss painter Henri Matthey-Jonais, depicting a suggestive and lively corner of the city of Florence. The work frames a vivid city scene: in the foreground the colorful tents of an outdoor market stand (presumably the famous San Lorenzo market), rendered with rapid and painterly brushstrokes.
In the background, the composition is dominated by the majestic Florentine Renaissance architectures: the unmistakable red dome and the bell tower of the complex of the Basilica of San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapels are clearly recognizable. The artist uses a luminous palette and a post-impressionist painting technique, characterized by dense and vibrant touches of color that magnificently capture the light of the Tuscan sky and the warm ochre tones of the historic buildings.
Signature, Inscriptions and Technical Details
Front of the work: At bottom right the autograph inscription "Florence 23 IX 51" is clearly visible, followed by the artist's signature.
Back of the work: The canvas is mounted on its original wooden frame, which shows the natural patina of time.
Inscriptions on the frame: On the top rail of the frame is handwritten in pencil the measurement "60 x 55". On the left upright of the frame the word "FLORENCE" is annotated vertically.
Conditions
The work is in conservation conditions that appear overall good and in line with the painting's age (1951). The back of the canvas shows the normal oxidation and browning due to time. The paint film on the front is textural and well preserved in its impasto layers.

Important information for bidders
As a private seller, please read carefully some notes to ensure an ideal transaction for both.

If the frame is visible in photos it is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, it does not determine its value and, given its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns.

Shipping and Customs notes: The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries might be slightly longer than usual due to normal customs procedures. I also remind you that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT and customs fees are at the buyer's expense and will be charged by authorities in your country upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises.

Pickup and Packaging: As an alternative to shipping, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate shipping costs and ensure maximum safety for the artwork. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during transit.
