Description from the seller
Austrian School 19th century
TAVERN SCENE
OIL ON CANVAS, MAROUFLÉ ON PANEL
UNSIGNED
25 x 29 cm
The proposed work is a fascinating and lively genre scene depicting a rustic interior animated by a group of patrons. The figures, captured in a moment of everyday conviviality around a table, are portrayed with marked expressions and an intense gestural language.
The composition, the almost caricatural features, and the skillful use of chiaroscuro unmistakably recall the stylistic hallmarks of Flemish and Dutch genre painting of the XVII century, echoing the atmospheres typical of masters such as David Teniers the Younger or Adriaen Brouwer.
The color palette is built on warm and enveloping earthy tones, from deep browns to ochres, brightened by touches of white and red that guide the observer's eye toward the narrative pivots of the scene. The brushstrokes are loose and expressive, capable of imparting great materiality and immediacy to the subjects depicted.
The canvas has been applied using the marouflage technique onto a solid black panel, an intervention that guarantees excellent structural stability to the painting while preserving the original texture of the fabric.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to EU countries may be slightly longer than usual due to the normal customs procedures.
In case of return of the package for an incorrect address, unclaimed package or unpaid duties, the buyer must pay a second shipping and cover the return costs.
I would also remind you that, since Switzerland lies outside the European Union customs area, import taxes, local VAT and duties are entirely the buyer's responsibility and will be collected by the authorities of your country upon delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively to shipping, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will allow you to eliminate transport costs and ensure the maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during transit.
