Barca sulla spiaggia, a XIX‑century oil on canvas maritime landscape from Spain, signed and sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Joan Massanet (1899-1969)
Marine landscape with boats, Oil on canvas, Unsigned (with autograph certificate of authenticity by the artist’s son on the back), 46 x 32 cm.
Fascinating oil painting on canvas by Catalan artist Joan Massanet, depicting a evocative coastal landscape of the Costa Brava with a pier, boats ashore on the shore and a cloudy sky in intense tones. On the back of the canvas there are autograph inscriptions and a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist’s son, Joan R. Massanet i Serra, in addition to the stamps of Galeria Massanet of La Escala.
Please note that the artwork requires conservation-restoration work: the painting surface shows widespread and evident cracks (craquelure), small losses or detachments of pigment (particularly in the sky and in the lower left area) and slight losses of the paint film that require the intervention of a professional restorer for consolidation and cleaning.
The frame, if visible in the photo, is included with the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value and, due to its fragility, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage it may suffer during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall mounting system could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can damage the work. They can be removed on request at no extra cost. Please let me know if you prefer the work shipped without it; otherwise I cannot assume responsibility.
Shipping and customs notes
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to the normal customs clearance procedures.
If the package is returned for an incorrect address, unclaimed parcel, or unpaid duties, the buyer will have to pay for a second shipment and cover the return costs.
I also remind you that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import taxes, local VAT and customs duties are entirely the buyer’s responsibility and will be charged by the authorities in your country upon delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate shipping costs and ensure the utmost safety for the work. If shipment is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during transit.
