Description from the seller

Sadok Gmach (1940-2024)

The camel herder

Oil on panel
Signed on the front in Arabic and on the back with a dedication
55 x 46 cm (work, standard 10 F format)
74 x 64 cm

Modern artwork with pronounced geometries and vivid colors that portrays stylized figures in a dreamlike landscape of clear North African inspiration. The composition is divided into panels by bold yellow lines that separate the narrative elements: on the right, figures in traditional clothing with warm reddish and orange tones stand out against blue and green backgrounds; on the left, a striking desert landscape populated by camels and sinuous ochre dunes unfolds beneath a deep sky. The aesthetic recalls Maghrebi contemporary art, characterized by an elegant formal synthesis and flat color fields. On the back of the panel is the title of the work and a fond autograph dedication by the artist, dated Geneva, 29 June 1968.

The frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, due to its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage suffered by it during transport will not be taken into account for claims or returns. The wall-mounting system could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can spoil the work. They can be removed upon request at no additional cost. Please let me know if you prefer that the work be sent without it; otherwise I cannot assume responsibility.

Notes on shipping and customs

The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs clearance procedures.

In case of return of the package for the wrong address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer will have to pay for a second shipment and cover return costs.

I would also remind you that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT, and customs duties are the buyer's full responsibility and will be requested by the authorities in your country upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself beforehand to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if you have the possibility, picking up the item in person in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate transport costs and guarantee the maximum safety for the work. If shipment is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during transit.
