This is a two-tiered circular *maki-e* stacked box (*jūbako*) created by the Japanese artist Heian Zohiko. It features a solid wood core finished with black *urushi* lacquer boasting a distinctive spiral-textured surface. The exterior is adorned with gold *maki-e* depicting red and gold maple leaves interspersed with white cherry blossoms, evoking a rich autumnal atmosphere; the thick lacquer layers lend the design a striking, three-dimensional quality.
The box consists of two detachable circular tiers with a plain black lacquer interior and bears the Heian Zohiko maker's mark on the base. It is in excellent condition and suitable for use as a tea room display piece, or for storing snacks or jewelry.
