Description from the seller
Rectangular high-relief plaque in artistic ceramic from the 1950s, depicting the Virgin Mary in prayer. The work was handmade by the renowned avant-garde manufacture San Polo of Venice, on a design by master sculptor and painter Otello Rosa (1920-2007). The piece stands out for its strong plasticity and its splendid thick polychromy. The robe is glossy and the mantle features intense shades of blue and turquoise, while the edge and the large halo are finished with precious details in gold leaf, expertly applied with the triple firing technique (third firing). On the back, perfectly legible on the dark glaze characterized by the era’s classic craquelé effect, are the original factory marks painted by hand:Name of the manufacture: "San Polo"Origin: "Made in Italy"Serial/model code: "2/59"Dimensions and weight:Height: 33 cmWidth: 13.5 cmThickness: 2 cmWeight: 1,129 gramsObject condition:The plaque structure is perfectly intact, with no cracks or repairs. The gold leafing and the enamels retain excellent brilliance. Only an aesthetic defect on the Virgin’s face is noted, with a superficial glaze loss on the cheek and forehead (as clearly shown in the close-up photos). A historic and extremely expressive piece, perfect for collectors of Italian 20th-century author ceramics.
