Description from the seller
A Japanese Aka-Raku matcha tea bowl crafted by the Shoraku kiln (松楽窯) - With Signed Tomobako.
This piece features the iconic soft, warm reddish-orange glaze characteristic of traditional Kyoto Raku-yaki. It is enhanced with a dramatic, natural black carbon mark (keshiki / landscape) created during the firing process, giving the bowl a unique and expressive character.
Raku ware is a quintessential type of tea ceramic that has been cherished by tea practitioners since the Momoyama period, owing to its deep connection with the *chanoyu* (tea ceremony) of Sen no Rikyū. Eschewing ornate decoration, these tea bowls are designed to be appreciated for the tactile sensation of holding them and the inherent character of the vessel itself.
Among the varieties of Raku ware, *Aka-raku* (Red Raku) is particularly prized for its bright, warm red hue. This specific piece features a striking contrast between red and black, creating a visual landscape that commands presence despite its rustic simplicity.
The bowl comes complete with its original signed wooden box (tomobako).
