Description from the seller

A beautiful oil painting of two Mute Swans (Cygnus olor) in a summer waterscape in the Netherlands. On the left is the male and on the right the female. Mute swans feed mainly on water plants and grasses. The mute swan can reach a wingspan of 2.40 meters and is 140 to 160 cm long. At 10 to 12 kg, the mute swan ranks among the heaviest flying birds. This species is about as large as the wild swan. The mute swan is white and has an orange-red beak with a black knob at the base. The neck is almost always held in an S-shape. That neck has the greatest number of cervical vertebrae of any bird (26). The male is larger and also has a heavier neck. The dimensions of the canvas are 70x100 cm and the outside of the frame is 95x125 cm. Bottom right, the painting is signed. Accompanying the painting is a ‘Certificate of Originality’ signed by the artist.

Origin: private collection. The painting was purchased directly from the artist by our gallery in 2003 and subsequently resold to the private collector. The painting has not been auctioned before.

The painting is in excellent condition. It is not damaged, not restored, and free from surface dirt. Recently a finish varnish has been applied, which will contribute to its durability for the future. The artisanal modern frame (brand KWH) is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use.

Artist Ron Meilof was born on January 23, 1953 in Hilversum and died on February 14, 2016 in Hijken (Drenthe province). Ron was a cousin of Ernst Vahrmeyer (1944-1995) and was a pupil of Dick de Vries (1948). In 1992 he was a member of the Enschede Artists Collective. Ron traveled abroad on study trips with his friend and fellow painter Lion Feijen. He belongs to the absolute world elite of ‘Wildlife’ painters.

Shipping (standard)
The painting is shipped standardly without the frame, as it is too large for regular parcel delivery. The stated shipping costs apply accordingly.

Shipping (UPS courier)
The painting can also be shipped, including the frame, on request, by courier. Please inform us in good time via the Catawiki email system. You will then pay additional shipping costs on top of the standard shipping charges. You will receive a separate invoice for this. After the invoice is paid, the painting including frame is sent via UPS courier. In advance you can estimate via the UPS website roughly how high the total shipping costs will be (excluding packing materials such as foam rubber U-profiles for frame protection) from our gallery to your address.

Pickup
The artwork can be picked up in its frame at our gallery in Lisse (South Holland, Netherlands). You will then not pay shipping costs and you can be sure the painting will be in good condition when it comes into your possession.
