The Campo del Cielo iron meteorite was first mentioned in 1576. At the site there is a field of 122 pits and craters; the largest measures 70 m in diameter and is 5 m deep. In the last two centuries, numerous masses, some weighing tons, have been recovered there, so that the total weight is estimated at 30-50 t, which makes Campo del Cielo the third largest meteorite after Hoba and Cape York.
