AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Vandino Daolio (nicknamed «Van.D.») was a naïve painter from Luzzara, in Reggio Emilia. In art he signed his works as «Van.D.», but he was best known for having been Antonio Ligabue's driver. Sources give 1920 as his year of birth, but they do not agree on the year of death: some auction catalogs indicate 2005.

He served as Ligabue's driver in the early sixties. That encounter gave him, as those who have told the story write, a small slice of notoriety, almost a legacy. He considered himself the only pupil of «Toni» and for decades he wrote that on the back of his paintings.

He painted in oil on masonite or on canvas. The more interesting subjects echo Ligabue's themes: animals and portraits of the 'painter-madman'.

Artwork of 60x100 cm without a frame.
The frame visible in the photo is included as a courtesy and does not constitute an integral part of the work. Any damage to the frame will not be grounds for complaints or order cancellations.

The frame, original, appears solid but somewhat damaged, especially on the left side where the plaster has come away.
On the back, there are still parts of the original carpenters’ paper, which, as can be seen, was from Guastalla — the Maestro Ligabue's country of adoption.
