Original silk painting on a scroll mounted on fabric from early 20th century China, titled Rouleau peint chinois, depicting a Shanshui landscape with verdant mountains and blue rocks, about 200 × 59 cm, provenance Private collection, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Magnificent and authentic early 20th-century Chinese hanging scroll, depicting a traditional Shanshui landscape (mountains and water).
The work, of great finesse, depicts verdant mountains with bluish details, traditional pavilions, a pagoda, and literati resting in a pavilion by the water. A poetic calligraphy surmounts the landscape at the top right. It is a famous poem titled ‘On a Painting of Pavilions in the Immortal Mountains’ (題仙山樓閣圖), written by the great poet of the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, Gao Qi (高啓, 1336–1374).
• Support: Silk painting mounted on a cloth scroll
• Dimensions of the painting: About 200 x 59 cm
• Item details: Presence of a red wax seal/genuine stamp on the back, an old numbered label on the top black lacquered wooden support certifies that the scroll had been inspected and that its export was authorized.
Condition:
Good overall condition for an object of this age. The painting retains superb colors (notably the green and blue pigments of the rocks). Note natural horizontal creases due to rolling and a slight patina/stains of time visible on the back of the scroll (visible in the photos), which attest to its age and do not alter in any way the charm of the work on display. Fast and careful shipping.
