Fenêtre sur la Méditerranée - NO RESERVE, an original Fauvist oil painting from France, dating to 1980–1990, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
French Fauvist school, 20th century
Mediterranean interior with views of the sea
Attractive oil painting belonging to the French Fauvist school of the 20th century, representing a luminous interior open to a Mediterranean landscape.
The composition is articulated through a large opening framed by shutters, from which the sea and coastal architecture between palm trees and abundant vegetation can be seen. In the foreground, a chair with floral motifs, various potted plants and a rug give the scene a marked intimate and domestic character.
The work stands out especially for its extraordinary chromatic richness, built through a deliberately intense combination of pinks, turquoise, blues, greens, oranges and whites. Color emancipates itself from a strictly naturalistic representation to become the true protagonist of the composition, an essential characteristic of the language developed by French Fauvism.
The use of bold contours, simplified shapes and broad flat areas of pure color reinforces this stylistic affiliation. Traditional perspective is deliberately subordinated to the rhythm of the lines and to the chromatic relationships, generating an image of great freshness, spontaneity and decorative strength.
It is especially interesting the relationship established between interior and exterior. The room functions as a frame within the painting itself, guiding the gaze toward the balcony, the tropical vegetation, the palm trees and finally toward the blue of the sea. This integration of domestic space with the Mediterranean landscape recalls a theme widely explored by numerous French artists linked to Fauvism and its developments during the 20th century.
The brushstroke, free and direct, along with the simplification of forms and the expressive use of complementary colors, gives the whole a cheerful and vital character. The work does not seek a photographic reproduction of the space, but a subjective and essentially chromatic interpretation of Mediterranean light.
A painting of great visual impact, intense luminosity and notable decorative presence, representative of the prolonged influence that the Fauvist language exerted on French painting throughout the 20th century.
