Description from the seller
Meursault 1er Cru "Les Poruzots" 1993 by Olivier Leflaive
From a Burgundian winemaking family, Olivier Leflaive inherits about twenty hectares of vineyards. After studying business in Reims, he led a life as an artist before returning to Burgundy in the 1980s and becoming co-manager of the Leflaive estate with his cousin Anne-Claude. He then decided to create his own house for aging and winemaking. He surrounds himself with oenologist Franck Grux with whom he makes beautiful wines, affordable in addition, from purchases of grapes from the estate.
About the cuvée
Owner of 0.5 ha of vines planted at around 300 m above sea level on the Les Poruzots Dessus terroir in Meursault, on the Côte de Beaune, the Olivier Leflaive estate cultivates Chardonnay on a very mineral soil, essentially calcareous, presenting pockets of clay-rich soil with iron.
This classic cuvée from the producer, a structured and generous white wine, recalls fresh hazelnut, white fruits (notably pear), and mirabelle plum. Secondary notes of butter and puff pastry indicate a controlled malolactic fermentation followed by oak aging (30% of the barrels are new). A pleasant tension gives the wine a fine liveliness, and the finish is long and refined.
Complex and structured, this great Meursault wine will gain greatly from aging for many years in a temperature-controlled cellar before settling down and revealing all its complexity.
