Antique mid-Edo period gilded samurai armour set in good condition, cast iron construction, 165 cm high and 65 cm wide, complete with iron menpo, copper maedate, saihai baton and tall sashimono, with gilded do and kote, stored in an Edo-period wooden box and attributed as Original from a private collection.

鉄黒漆塗金箔仏二枚胴具足
Tetsu kuro-urushi nuri kinpaku hotoke nimaido gusoku .
江户時代中期 . Middle Edo period.

This armor was made in Japan during the 18 th century .

This is superb gilded armor Of a Samurai of high-rank . Of course adult size.

Complete with an iron menpo a copper maedate ,a saihai batton to command and with a tall gilded Sashimono.

The helmet is an iron Momonari kabuto peach shaped and gilded .
.
The do, an hotoke do inspired by a belly of a buddha is also gilded and with kamon.

The kote are gilded also in good condition, as many parts of the armor .

This armor appears to have undergone some touch-ups in places—typical given its age .
A fantastic example of Japanese craftsmanship in good general state of preservation from the mid-Edo period around 18th century .

It stands as a testimony of its owner's status and financial means, as creating such a suit of armor would have required countless hours of work by skilled Japanese artisans.
