Charles Dezobry, Rome in the Augustan Century, or Voyage of a Gaul to Rome at the Time of Augustus and during part of the Reign of Tiberius.

Complete set of the text in four volumes, devoted to Rome at the time of Augustus and Tiberius. The work is presented in the form of the fictional voyage of a Gaul to Rome and offers numerous descriptions of daily life, topography, architecture, institutions and customs of ancient Rome.
The four volumes are bound uniformly in dark leather, with gilded titles on the back, gilded fillets and numbering 1 to 4.
The bindings show signs of age and use, notably at the corners, joints and along the edges of the spines. The gilding remains legible. The interior presents some foxing and age-related stains, in keeping with the age of the work.
Note: the large folding plan of Rome, which originally accompanied this edition, is missing.
A beautiful decorative set from the 19th century, particularly interesting for enthusiasts of Roman history, classical antiquity and old books.
