Collectie historische herbaria - Nederland 1955–1972 + antiek herbariumblad Lago Maggiore 1872 – 185+ planten – 2 rijk geïllustreerde - 1872-1972

The lot contains:

A special botanical collection consisting of two Dutch herbaria from 1955–1956 and 1972, two richly illustrated books on the Dutch flora, and as a particularly historical component an antique herbarium leaf from 1872 from Italy.
The oldest and most decorative object in the collection is an original herbarium leaf with several dried plants, collected near Lake Maggiore in Italy in the autumn of 1872. The original handwritten note records the place and the dating “Autumn 1872.” The leaf has been placed under glass in a decorative wooden frame measuring 37 × 24 cm.

1. Herbarium 1955–1956
This herbarium consists of 55 sheets of sturdy paper measuring 21 × 14 cm with a total of 142 dried plants. The plants are systematically arranged on the sheets. Represented are, among others, ferns from the family Polypodiaceae, clubmosses (Lycopodiaceae), and various other plant groups.
The herbarium is kept in an old metal box measuring 22 × 15 × 6 cm.

2. Herbarium 1972
This herbarium is housed in a colorful original K. Siderius “Herbarium” portfolio of 33 × 23 cm.
It contains 22 sheets with a total of 43 dried plants. Many specimens include handwritten names and collection dates. Examples include Wormwood (Artemisia), Hengel, Dactylis glomerata, and Achillea millefolium (Yarrow).
The two Dutch herbaria together contain 185 dried plants. The various plants on the Italian herbarium leaf from 1872 add to that total.
The collection is complemented by two richly illustrated botanical books on the flora of the Netherlands:
H. Heukels – “Illustrated School Flora for the Netherlands”
Richly illustrated edition, 18.5 × 14 cm, 937 pages.
A. van Iersel – “Simple Flora for the Netherlands”
Richly illustrated edition, 17 × 11 cm, 164 pages.
The collection covers a period of precisely 100 years: from 1872 to 1972.

The condition is appropriate for the age of the various components. The dried plants show natural aging. The metal box shows clear signs of use and localized loss of finish. The condition of the plants, sheets, books, portfolio, frame, and other components is shown in detail in the photos.
