Description from the seller
Description
Identity explores the construction of one’s image through a figure that seems to inhabit the space between character and person. The hat, the glasses, the cigarette and the flowers function as elements of a carefully constructed identity, while the face remains partly hidden behind shadows and reflections.
The gestural brushwork and the color contrasts turn the character into a magnetic presence. The turquoise, orange, pink and white tones create a visual tension between serenity and energy, while the flowers provide an almost symbolic counterpoint: beauty, fragility and personal expression.
From a contemporary perspective, Identity can be understood as a reflection on identity as construction, attitude and visual language. The character does not need to show their entire face to be recognizable; it is their codes —the clothing, the accessories, the posture, the flowers and the gesture— that build their presence.
The work thus connects with a society in which identity is constantly expressed through images, symbols and aesthetic choices. The portrait ceases to be merely a representation of a person and becomes a staging of the self.
The painting treatment, spontaneous and expressive, also maintains an interesting tension between the figurative and the contemporary: we recognize the character immediately, but the brushstroke, the simplified forms and the bold use of color keep the painting with a strong artistic personality.
