Dutch antique wall table from circa 1780–1800 with a swivelling leaf, mainly made of solid mahogany with brass fittings, 126 cm wide, 55 cm deep, 73.5 cm high, in good used condition with minor signs of age and patina, in the Louis XVI style.
Description from the seller
An 18th-century wall/side table with a rotating top so it can also be used as a writing, gaming, or dining room table. Made during the Dutch Louis XVI period, circa 1780-1800.
The table is mostly constructed from beautifully quality solid mahogany! Only the sides, drawer bottom, and drawer guides are of oak. The tops of the revolving leaf are still perfectly straight and flat as when they were made and retain the original hinges. The single drawer is fixed on the front with hand-forged nails and has dovetail joints at the back. The drawer still bears the original lock (key missing) and gilded brass ring fittings decorated with pearl and leaf borders and floral rosettes.
The left-front leg at the top has the original inlaid brass fence to prevent the leaf from turning.
The bottom leaf has notches on the left and right sides and a wrought iron eye. Its exact purpose is unknown, but presumably to hook in an extra leaf to enlarge the tabletop when more guests stayed for a meal.
The table rests on square tapering legs with fluted channels and a slightly broader profiled plinth at the bottom.
The entire table displays wonderful deep, warm contrasting colors, a beautiful satin sheen from the authentic wax finish, and over the centuries a stunning patina has developed!!!
Dimensions when closed: Height 73.5 cm, Width 126 cm, Depth 55 cm.
Dimensions when opened: Height 71.5 cm, Width 126 cm, Depth 110 cm.
Height to underside of tabletop: 69.5 cm
Height to underside of the frame: 59 cm
