Dr Joseph-Charles Mardrus, Le Livre des Mille Nuits et Une Nuit, is a limited illustrated edition in eight volumes with red leather bindings and gold decoration, 525 pages per volume, 21 × 17 cm, published in 1965 by Cercle du Livre Précieux in French.

Red bindings richly gilt
The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, in the famous French translation by Dr. Joseph-Charles Mardrus, published in Paris by Cercle du Livre Précieux.
A very fine set consisting of 8 volumes, 525 pages each. Format 21 cm × 17 cm.
This bibliophile edition was produced according to the designs by Alain Meylan. The photogravure was entrusted to Ifag, the printing to Imprimeries Réunies in Lausanne, under the technical direction of Philippe Schwager, and the binding to Engel.
The edition was completed for printing on September 10, 1965. Limited and numbered edition
The present set bears no. 3550.
Remarkable set of 8 matching red bindings, richly ornamented on the backs with gilded compositions of Oriental-inspired designs, with arabesques, palmettes and symmetrical motifs.
In the center of each spine is a large piriform medallion on a green background bearing the title “Le livre des mille nuits et une nuit” as well as the volume number.
The eight volumes together offer a very handsome decorative presence in a library.
The interior also benefits from a particularly careful presentation. The title page is surrounded by a spectacular polychrome Orientalist composition, combining interlacings, arabesques, vegetal motifs and stylized animals.
The text is embellished with ornamental borders, decorated initials and typographic compositions, with airy printing on wide-margin paper.
Good overall condition, bindings homogeneous with gilding still well present and luminous. The pages are clean and fresh, with a very high printing quality.
The photos are an integral part of the description.
