AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

An exceptional pair of authentic, hand-colored botanical woodcuts from a rare 1545 Basel edition of the landmark herbal "Primi de stirpium historia commentariorum tomi vivae imagines" by the celebrated German physician and botanist Leonhart Fuchs.

Following the massive success of his initial folios, Fuchs collaborated with printer Michael Isengrin in Basel to produce these highly prized, field-practical editions featuring the same world-renowned illustrations scaled to a smaller format. Each print features beautiful hand-coloring in watercolor, meticulously emphasizing the anatomical details of the plants.

The two leaves illustrate a Cyperus plant, a Sweet Pea plant and two Cucomber plants.

Dimensions: 16 x 10 cm each
Condition: Good.
