Description from the seller
Oil on canvas,
A Still Life with Drapery and Candlestick,
Flowers and a pink ribbon,
Cina Maria Charlotta Jacoba van Es (1849–1891) was a Dutch painter, born on Terschelling and later active in Breda and The Hague.
She painted mainly still lifes, flowers, portraits, and figure paintings. From the 1870s onward, Van Es participated in several exhibitions in, among other places, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague.
Her work was regularly praised by contemporaries and she was mentioned in exhibition reviews alongside well-known female artists such as Margaretha Roosenboom, Gerardine van de Sande Bakhuyzen and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten.
In 1885 she married jonkheer Bernard Lodewijk Teding van Berkhout. She continued painting afterward as well.
Van Es died in 1891 in The Hague at the age of only 42.
Her surviving oeuvre is relatively small, which is why her paintings today do not appear on the market very often.
The work is generally in good condition (revarnished, it has light craquelé).
The work is in a matching frame.
Canvas size is 50 by 60 cm.
The work is carefully packed and shipped.
