【Product details】

This impressive antique Japanese Musha Ningyo depicts a dignified samurai general with a powerful and commanding expression. Dating to the Meiji period (1868–1912), the figure is dressed in elaborate traditional garments made with silk brocade and other fine textiles. He wears a tall tate-eboshi, decorative pom-pom cords across the chest, finely painted hands, and carries a folding fan at the waist together with a saihai-style command baton.

The figure is seated on a black lacquered cylindrical wooden stand. The detailed facial modelling, traditional gofun (crushed shell pigment) finish and richly woven costume reflect the craftsmanship associated with Japanese warrior dolls of this period.

There is considerable age-related wear, including tears, fraying and discolouration to the textiles, surface dirt and rubbing to the face and other areas, and loss/damage to the toe area of the right foot. The doll and the black lacquered cylindrical stand are not fixed together. Please review all photos for the condition.

※Important: For Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Monaco and Portugal, orders of €150 or less cannot currently be shipped due to the new €3 customs duty/IOSS issue. There is no confirmed resumption date. Please do not bid unless you are prepared to wait. Orders over €150 are not affected.
