Description from the seller
The Raft of Capitalism - "Race for Gold, Shipwreck of Souls."
Digital collage: https://www.teejo.fr/pages/l-atelier-digital
In this contemporary reading of Géricault’s masterpiece, I aimed to replace romantic despair with a sharp critique of the modern world: that of triumphant and toxic capitalism. The raft, gnawed by the waves, no longer carries survivors seeking salvation, but a stranded humanity, hypnotized by the symbols of wealth—ingots, safe, luxury suitcase, stock market screens. On the right, a “Wall Street” sign sets the scene: the financial el dorado as a point of no return.
The looks are empty, the sail bears the logos of the new idols: cryptocurrencies and luxury brands. A man, tattooed with a bull, brutal symbol of the Stock Exchange, turns his back on the horizon. Time, represented by a clock adrift, and on the left character’s watch, continues to slip away… but no one looks at it; everyone watches the distant yacht passing on the horizon in the hopes of being saved.
This work depicts collective blindness, the forgetting of the essential, and a society fighting not to sink… while refusing to let go of the superflu.
