Rare first edition of this precious translation, dedicated to Clement XI and superior to the vulgarizations of Gagliardi and Indrizzali, of the famous "Confessions" of St. Augustine.
Of the Confessions of Saint Aurelius Augustine, bishop of Hippo, thirteen books. From copious illustrated commentaries and from the censures of opponents defended and vulgarized by Father Giangiuseppe da S. Anna, Carmelite barefoot of the province of Venice, Venice, Marcellino Piotto, 1760.
PP.: (IV), XXVI, (II), 567 [i.e. 563], (V). COMPLETE (Pagination repeats pp. 175-176, 237-38).
Copy still in the rough state with edges in overall good condition, with some damp stains and the usual signs of use and time. Manuscript ex-libris from an ancient ecclesiastical library, now extinct, on the title page.
Rusted contemporary publisher’s hardcover binding, slightly loose but well preserved overall. Missing the white rear flyleaf.
