Arturo Zanieri was born on March 7, 1870 in Florence, where he began his artistic career in 1885, attending the studio of the Florentine painter Niccolò Cecconi, author of allegories and portraits. In 1886, for four years, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, following the teachings of painters Stefano Ussi and Lorenzo Gelati, who directed him toward the study of portraits and drawing from the nude. In 1889, he placed second among seventeen competitors in the live nude drawing competition of the academy. In 1890 he participated in the exhibition of the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti of Florence and took part in subsequent editions while he frequented the artistic circle of the Caffè Michelangiolo, and he was among the founding members of the Circolo Artistico di Firenze, while in 1891 he attended the studio of the Florentine Lorenzo Gelati, a member of the Caffè Michelangiolo, and in 1892 he opened his studio in Florence.
