Lot of 6 antique travel books about Holland in English, original language, published between 1875 and 1919, with a special edition Holland and its people (the Zuyder Zee Edition, no. 133 of 600) and numerous etchings and illustrations in mixed bindings.
Description from the seller
A set of 6 antique books by travelers who visited the Netherlands and wrote about it with admiration and astonishment, sometimes also with a touch of melancholy nostalgia. With many fine engravings and illustrations.
- Holland and its people, 1885, Edmondo de Amicis - special numbered edition the Zuyder Zee Edition, no. 133 of 600. With many fine engravings. Rare edition in somewhat poorer condition - the cover binding on the outer spine is damaged, loose pages but complete, the book is equipped with many hand-engraved etchings whose edges are blotchy but generally suitable for framing. This special edition is hard to find and I saw it online offered from around $300.
- Holland of Today, 1919, George Wharton Edwards, with beautiful color-printed illustrations by Edwards. A fine and nicely bound book in good condition.
- The people of Holland, 1910, Nico Jungman, with numerous fine color illustrations. In good condition.
- The dead cities of the Zuyderzee, 1875, English translation of the French book by Henry Havard, with many beautiful illustrations. Havard could write wonderfully about the Netherlands and not only in a positive light. The translation is hard to find; in neat condition.
- Holland and our friends the Dutch, 1911, S.S. Abrahamson, with very beautiful black-and-white photographs. The book in neat condition, with a pencil note 'for your birthday' from 1911.
- Things seen in Holland, 1912, E. Roche, with very fine black-and-white photographs. A small, handy little book in neat condition.
These are antique books in generally neat condition, unless otherwise noted. But don't expect mint condition.
