Description from the seller

oil painting on canvas Serafín Avendaño Martínez 1838 - 1916 " mountain landscape with trees and a river " dimensions cm 47 x 65, with frame present, protective glass

Serafin Avendano Martinez Still very young, he moved with his family from Vigo to Madrid, where he received his first art lessons at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando from Antonio Maria Esquivel and Jenaro Pérez Villaamil.[1] In 1858 he won the silver medal at the Galician Exposition for the watercolor titled "A miña tristura" (My sorrow). Although he was initially influenced by the style of the Italian-Belgian landscape painter Carlos de Haes, later he shifted toward a brighter range of colors.

He then went to Geneva to study under Calame, and here he acquired a landscape technique of notable quality. In 1866 he moved to Genoa, where he remained for about thirty years. He was part of the Scuola di Rivara and had contact with the Scuola grigia. In 1896 he returned to his homeland.
