Description from the seller

Large glazed relief ceramic panel “Agnus Dei” – Italian sacred art – 20th century

Description
Important decorative panel in molded relief terracotta and glazed, characterized by a composition with religious inspiration and a strongly tactile craftsmanship. The work is articulated in two large adjacent fields. The left panel presents a radial geometric composition, built around a large six-element motif and enclosed within a succession of circular bands and geometric decorations. The right panel depicts the Agnus Dei, one of the oldest symbols of the Christian tradition: the lamb is shown in profile while holding the banner topped with the cross. The figure is placed inside a large circular medallion edged with relief spherical elements. Particularly interesting is the surface, entirely worked in relief and coated with glazes in shades of green-gray, brown, red, and ochre, with variations and overlays that emphasize the artisanal character of the piece. The back, left in natural terracotta, clearly shows the construction of the panel with broad reinforcing ribs, also necessary considering the substantial size and weight. In terms of stylistic language and execution technique, the panel can be attributed to the Italian production of sacred art and decorative ceramics of the 20th century, most probably from the second half of the century. No signatures or maker marks were identified.
