Elisabeth Vandeweghe (born 1946) & Perignem – Anthropomorphic ceramic gilded totem sculpture (c. 1970)
Impressive freestanding sculpture in chamotte ceramic, attributed to the Belgian ceramic artist Elisabeth Vandeweghe for the Perignem workshop in Beernem.
The piece features a vertical anthropomorphic, openwork silhouette with strong decorative impact, characteristic of the Brutalist and Modernist style of the 1970s. It stands out for its full coverage in glossy metallic gold glaze, worked in relief with geometric incisions, punctured details around the central medallion, and stamped honeycomb motifs.
The underside shows the original rough red-brown terracotta, typical of the workshop's artisanal production.
