Description from the seller
Pierre Forest (1881–1971) – Bouquet of Mimosas – Oil on panel
Beautiful floral still life by the French painter Pierre Forest (1881–1971), depicting a generous bouquet of yellow mimosas arranged in a rustic wooden window box.
The composition stands out for the contrast between the bright yellow flowers, the greenish-blue foliage, and the deep blue background. The mimosa, particularly associated with the Côte d'Azur and the south of France, gives the work a very decorative Mediterranean character.
Pierre Forest, born in Nice on November 21, 1881 and died in Paris in 1971, is a French painter known for his landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and floral still lifes.
The artist is referenced in the Dictionnaire des peintres, sculpteurs, dessinateurs et graveurs by E. Bénézit. He exhibited notably at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris from 1931 to 1943, of which he became a member. He also organized solo exhibitions in Paris and in several French cities, as well as in South America, Switzerland and Morocco.
The work is signed “P. Forest” at the bottom right.
The painting is presented in an elegant antique carved and gilded wooden frame, adorned with floral and foliate motifs.
