A rare original edition of the famous historical-architectural work by the renowned Italian archaeologist and writer. The work deals with the antiquities and the fine arts of Rome, describing the latest archaeological discoveries and artistic novelties, and represents one of the fundamental texts for the study of archaeology and eighteenth-century collecting in the eternal city. Five volumes in two tomes. Half-leather binding. Title in gold on the spine. Large vignettes at the frontispieces. Splendid iconographic apparatus with four illustrated frontispieces, the portrait of Pius VI and 143 plates, some folded, reproducing plans of monuments, architectural sections, statues, and artifacts unearthed during the excavations.
