Carrera 5354 – Vintage sunglasses in black and green, made of acetate in Austria, new old stock condition with cleaning cloth and box, size 58-16 and 140 mm temple, model notes: CARRERA 5354.
Description from the seller
There is a direct and little-known link between Carrera and Optyl: it was Wilhelm Anger himself, the Austrian pioneer who in 1956 founded the Carrera brand inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana, who patented in 1969 this revolutionary thermosetting resin. The model 5354 is almost an extreme example: an extremely thin and lightweight front, made possible precisely by Optyl's properties, about 20% lighter than traditional acetate, heat resistant and able to keep vivid colors over time, qualities that allowed Carrera to sign some of the most sculptural and astonishing frames in Austrian eyewear in the 1970s–1980s.
