Description from the seller
Carved Lapidary Sculpture of a Cockatoo in Semi-Precious Stones and Amethyst Druse, Brazilian School of Lapidary Art, 20th Century.
In fairly good condition, with only a flaw on the crest at the end of the head, as indicated in the photos.
Magnificent and imposing figurative sculpture representing a cockatoo, meticulously hand-carved in selected blocks of natural minerals. The bird's body features detailed engraving work on the back and wings to simulate the texture of the plumage, using variations of jasper and quartz. The emblematic raised crest and the long tail feathers are executed in yellow-toned calcite/quartz and translucent amber, giving dynamism and visual lightness to the piece. The bird is masterfully perched on a sturdy base of natural amethyst druse with purple crystals of excellent saturation and geometric brilliance, creating an organic color contrast of great decorative impact.
