Viñedos de Sonsierra Viñedo Viejo 2018 from Rioja Alta (DOCa Rioja), 4 × 0.75 L bottles in the original presentation box.
Description from the seller
2018 Viñedos de Sonsierra – Viñedo Viejo – Rioja Alta – 4 × 75 cl in Original Presentation Box
A distinctive parcel wine from Rioja Alta, offered as four individually numbered bottles in their original Sonsierra presentation box. With a production of just 3,822 bottles, this is an appealing lot for lovers of old-vine Tempranillo.
Viñedo Viejo comes from a small vineyard planted in 1950 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The back label describes a plot of just 0.877 hectares, with approximately 2,800 vines growing in sandy soil and carefully tended without machinery.
Made from 100% Tempranillo, the wine spent 21 months in new French oak barrels before bottling on 1 February 2021. This extended maturation, followed by several years in bottle, adds to the appeal of this limited release.
In its review of the 2018 vintage, The Tasting Panel highlights dark berry fruit, savoury herbs, olive and anise, complemented by toasted oak and a firm, fresh structure: a Rioja with depth and an individual character.
Vivino: 4.2/5, based on 107 ratings for the wine across vintages.
