Anatre sul lago ghiacciato, an oil painting from Denmark dating to 1900–1910, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
The work depicts a group of grebes and wild ducks gathered on the ice crust of a winter lake, immersed in an atmospheric landscape shrouded in mist and bare trees.
Fischer here demonstrates his full sensitivity for Nordic nature painting: the composition stands out for the cold light reflections on the glassy surface of the lake and for the veristic rendering of the waterfowl. The motif of animals portrayed on ice or snow represents one of the happiest, most lyrical and expressive themes of late 19th-century Danish painting.
Theodor Fischer was one of the leading animal painters (dyremaler) of Denmark at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.
Training and Academic Recognitions: Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi), he earned, during his career, three times the famous Neuhausen Prize (De Neuhausenske Priser), one of the highest Danish artistic awards of the era. From 1880 to 1929 he regularly exhibited at the historic Charlottenborg shows.
The connection with Royal Copenhagen: From 1894 he worked as a painter.
His works and ceramics are preserved and documented in leading museum institutions, including: National Museum of Stockholm (Sweden), Design Museum Denmark (Copenhagen), Statens Museum for Kunst / Kunstindeks Danmark (Official Catalog of Danish Cultural Heritage).
Canvas size: 43.5 × 56.5 cm.
The signature is autograph and contemporary.
It is mounted in a frame, to be regarded as a courteous gift and thus not considered an integral part of the artwork.
The work belongs to an important private collection and authenticity and rightful provenance are guaranteed.
No claims for damage during transport will be accepted, which will nevertheless be careful and traceable.
