Maritime object - Copper- Cardan compass boat.

an antique brass or copper ship's compass with a built-in oil lamp, also called a binnacle compass or night compass.
Features of the object: the lamp cover is missing.
• Material: Made of brass or copper, often with a weathered patina that indicates age.
• Side housing: The cabinet on the side contained a small petroleum- or oil lamp to illuminate the compass in the dark. The small cap served as a chimney for the heat and smoke.
• Cardan suspension: The binnacle compass hangs in rings (gimbals) so it stays level as the ship moves. Photos are part of the description. The lot will be carefully packed and insured for shipment.
