Jaume García Antón

València, 1948 - 2020

Member of the Research Area at the Miró Foundation and co-creator of the Association of Visual Artists of Catalonia. Jaume García Antón is situated within the “neopop” movement due to the repeated use of images taken from the media and the recurrence to artists who, as a tribute, absorb them into his own language. His artistic production culminates in a constant reflection on nature, pictorial language, genres, and the different expressions of the world. Strongly linked to clearly politicized artistic movements, message and form have been the ideological support of his global projection. At the end of his career, he weakened the political denunciation message, and his work gives way to the immediacy of haphazard and everyday scenes.

• Beginnings (1970s): He held his first solo and group exhibitions in Valencia and Barcelona, later expanding his work to Gerona, Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, and Atlanta (USA).
• “Batecs de la memòria. A 70 anys de la Segona República” (2001–2002): A commemorative group exhibition in which he presented the work Joia, a special piece that reflects popular enthusiasm in the Plaça de Sant Jaume during the proclamation of the Catalan Republic in 1931. This work became part of the collections of the Museum of Catalonia History.
• “Grans formats / Grandes formatos” (2016): A large-format group show alongside other artists such as Manel Álvarez, Alfonso Alzamora, Isabel Cruellas, or José María Guerrero Medina.
• Other group exhibitions: He has participated in fairs and exhibitions of realist and contemporary painting (such as Eleven Realist Painters + 1 in 2012), and his work is part of institutional collections such as the Martínez Guerricabeitia Collection of the University of Valencia and the Testimonio Collection of "la
