Born in 1908 in Lutry, Switzerland, Lucien Beyer grew up in an artistic environment marked by his father, the ceramist Paul Beyer. Initially a designer for the silk trade, he quickly turned to painting and, in the early 1930s, joined the Lyon circle led by Marcel Michaud. He became one of the active members of the Témoignage group, an avant-garde movement that gathered painters, sculptors, artisans, and poets around a deeply humanist and spiritual conception of art.
Beyer participated in the major exhibitions of the group, notably the Autumn Salon in Lyon in 1937 and the Paris showings of 1938 and 1939, where his work was noted for its sensibility, its sense of material, and its singular plastic language. His career unfolds within the vibrant art scene of the interwar period, alongside figures such as Étienne-Martin, Manessier, or Le Moal.
Lucien Beyer’s compositions captivate with their subtle balance between emerging abstraction and intimate resonances. His palette, often warm, reveals a quest for inner light, while his structured forms testify to a high level of drawing mastery. Regularly present on the French market, his works benefit from constant interest from collectors, drawn to the rarity and quality of his production.
